How do I set up an EFT server for secure file transfers?

To set up SolarWinds^® Serv-U Managed File Transfer (Serv-U MFT) for secure file transfers, you must first install the Serv-U MFT file server, preferably on a private, non-internet-facing server. From the Serv-U Management Console, you can create domains or collections of users and groups with common settings and rules by adding a name and description for your new domain. Then, select whether you’re configuring a File Transfer Domain, a File Sharing Domain, or both.

If you’re creating a File Transfer Domain, you’ll need to choose which protocols and port numbers—usually port 21—the domain should use. If creating a File Sharing Domain, you should enter the domain URL and file sharing repository before checking whether you’d like to use a secure URL. You can then select which IP addresses will be listened to.

After creating your first domain, create user accounts. Provide a login ID and password and specify a home directory. Next, choose directory access rights. Read Only is the default, but you can grant Full Access to allow users to upload and delete files, create new directories, and rename files and folders.
