In this short video WSUS MVP, Lawrence Garvin, will demo how you can receive alerts when a new patch becomes available, centrally deploy the patch(es) to the right machines and report on the status of compliance, all with the use of Patch Manager
This video will show you how easy it is to detect known application vulnerabilities, remediate those vulnerabilities and prove to your boss that your systems are in compliance.
You can use Update Views and Computer Views to review the installation state of updates available for deployment. In the Update Views, you can inspect computer status for a selected update to determine which computers need the selected update. In the computer views, you can inspect update status for a selected computer to determine which updates are needed on the selected computer.
In addition to Microsoft® updates, which only account for about a fifth of known vulnerabilities, Patch Manager also provides pre-built and pre-tested updates for common 3rd party applications which constitute about three-quarters of the remaining vulnerabilities. These are automatically synchronized to the Patch Manager Server. Then you can select the targeted systems to receive updates, and patch manager will do this automatically.
After you have installed updates, you can verify that the installation was successful and export the task results details to show your boss all updates have been made.
The dashboard level view provides a quick glance of security updates that are missing with their severity, and the servers and desktops that are up to date, missing a patch, or have installation errors.
With reporting, you can see a customized view of update status. For example, if your Help Desk team is reporting issues with Java apps, you can quickly filter the report to show the machines that have the Java® Runtime Environment (JRE) installed and determine whether they have been patched with the latest version. Reports can be scheduled and emailed in a number of formats including PDF, HTML, XLS, among others.
