Public sector organisations need to balance innovation with operational stability. Thanks to AI, hybrid IT, and the cloud government tech environments are becoming increasingly complex — making effective management and security more challenging. 58% of respondents cite workforce skill gaps as the biggest challenge to digital transformation. 53% believe foreign governments are one of the greatest security threats, just after careless and/or untrained staff.

And while technologies like AI and observability are enabling comprehensive threat detection and rapid incident response (three-quarters of respondents cited enhanced security monitoring as extremely or very important), privacy concerns and regulatory challenges remain key barriers to adoption.

Knowing how to manage overlapping trends and concerns is a key skill in public sector IT management. See how your organisation compares to your public sector peers.
