Monitor FTP and DNS server availability and responsiveness

Proactively monitor the responsiveness of FTP sessions and DNS or TCP queries.

The FTP User Experience Monitor tests the ability of an FTP server to accept incoming sessions, process user logins, and transmit the requested file. The component monitor performs an MD5 checksum comparison on the downloaded file to verify content integrity.

The DNS User Experience Monitor tests the ability of a DNS server to respond to a record query and measures its responsiveness.

Windows FTP server metrics include:
  • FTP Publishing Service
  • Bytes Received/sec
  • Bytes Sent/sec
  • Current Anonymous Users
  • Current Connections
  • Current Non-Anonymous Users
  • Total Connection Attempts
  • Total Files Received
  • Total Files Sent
  • Total Files Transferred

Discover your application environment and automatically deploy monitoring coverage to ensure availability of your critical applications

SolarWinds Server & Application Monitor (SAM) automatically scans your servers, discovers applications, and assigns out-of-the-box monitoring templates within minutes of installation. No agents are needed, so deployment and maintenance are a breeze and there's no concern about slowing down your network. Additionally, the Application Discovery Engine automatically assigns out-of-the-box templates including Windows DNS Server and Windows FTP.

Use Message Center to streamline troubleshooting

The SolarWinds Message Center is your central view of notification messages about the performance of your collaboration servers. This consolidated view allows you to troubleshoot performance issues quickly by analyzing alerts from a single interface instead of scouring various machines. What’s more, with Conditional Group Dependencies, you can intelligently map applications to the physical or virtual servers they run on so you only receive a single critical alert if one application or server goes down instead of an onslaught of hundreds of alerts for each of the servers and applications that are impacted.
