With SolarWinds User Device Tracker (UDT), not only can you analyze port usage and capacity on your network, but you can also monitor its users, devices, and ports.
You can also find where users and devices are connected in your network. SolarWinds UDT regularly polls switches and routers for data and tells you what is connected and where.
SolarWinds UDT stores current and historical information about where and when a user has connected to your network.
For capacity analysis, SolarWinds UDT reports how many ports are used on switches currently, as well as over time, so you can clearly understand just how the ports on your switches are being used.
SolarWinds UDT takes a two-step approach to discovering and adding network devices by first adding network devices to monitor, and then adding the ports to monitor on those devices.
Adding New Devices - There are multiple ways to add devices in SolarWinds UDT. The method recommended depends on the number of devices you want to add. When you install and run SolarWinds UDT for the first time, you will be taken to the Network Sonar Discovery Wizard.
Adding New Ports - After you have discovered network devices, use the DISCOVER MY PORTS option in Discovery Central to discover and add ports to SolarWinds UDT.
Adding Multiple New Devices (Network Sonar Discovery) - SolarWinds UDT employs the easy-to-use Network Sonar Discovery Wizard to direct you in the discovery of devices on your network. The Network Sonar Discovery Wizard recognizes network devices that are already in your Orion database and prevents you from importing duplicate devices.
Adding a Single New Device (Node) - Use the ADD A SINGLE DEVICE option in Discovery Central if you only need to add a single device.
Track endpoint devices by MAC and IP address on wired and wireless networks.
Monitor wireless access points, and switches for performance and errors.
Always know how switches and ports are being used, and which switches are nearing capacity.
