This video provides an explanation of the licensing associated with SolarWinds Storage Resource Monitor, and different licensing scenarios for monitoring storage devices.
SolarWinds® Storage Resource Monitor provides heterogeneous storage performance and capacity monitoring across storage devices from EMC®, NetApp®, Dell®, and Hitachi® among others.
Storage Resource Monitor is licensed by the total number of disks or drives in each SAN and NAS device being monitored. Published licensing tiers range from an SRM25 to an SRM5000. An SRM25 is a license for 25 disks, and an SRM5000 is a license for up to 5,000 disks. For customers that need to monitor more than 5000 disks, please contact SolarWinds sales.
Let's review some examples of licensing options. Storage Resource Monitor contains two modules that can be used to monitor your storage solution, the Orion® Module and the Profiler Module. Depending on your environment, they can be used individually or together to give you an in-depth view of your storage landscape. Both modules can be activated through integration using a single license key.
The Orion Module provides heterogeneous performance and capacity monitoring, and is based on the Orion Platform. This module is AppStack-aware, providing integration with Server & Application Monitor, Virtualization Manager, and Web Performance Monitor.
The Profiler Module provides the same heterogeneous performance and capacity monitoring. It is based on a legacy module and offers additional device support. For specific device support, we recommend scheduling a call with SolarWinds sales.
Here is an example where both modules are being used together on two devices. There is one array with 100 disks monitored by the Orion Module, and another array with 200 disks monitored by the Profiler Module. After setting up integration in SRM Orion, both the arrays can be covered using a single SRM300 license.
Again, we have only one array with 100 disks monitored by the Orion Module and another array with 200 disks monitored by the Profiler Module. Now, we will add a third array with 200 disks. This array is monitored by the Orion and Profiler Modules. We call this a "shared device," and its disks will only be counted once against the license. After setting up integration in SRM Orion, all three arrays can be covered using a single SRM500 license.
