In this video, learn about the innovative TrueDelta features that allow SolarWinds to dramatically reduce the amount of data it sends to the cloud with each backup.
SolarWinds Backup is a file- and folder-based service designed to perform granular file, folder, application, and volume-level restores. It supports synthesizing an image-level recovery to bare metal or to a virtual machine.
This gives you the freedom to focus on the types of data that are most important to your organization.
It also allows you to exclude data types that have little recovery value. For example, there is no business reason to back up temporary internet files, patch, or antivirus updates. You also don’t need to protect music or video files that are readily available from other sources. And you can exclude application installation files, SQL dumps, and .tar files. This results in less data to process, transmit, and store, making your backups much more efficient.
TrueDelta™ is SolarWinds’ innovative technology that dramatically reduces the amount of data sent over WAN connections. It’s how SolarWinds optimizes backups for the cloud – by rethinking the traditional methods used by on-premises backup products.
There are three main components of TrueDelta:
- Byte-level deduplication
- Data compression
- And specially optimized scanning and handling techniques
TrueDelta allows high performance delivery and reliability, while sending less data over the wire.
For example, in a sample set of 3,000 customer servers ranging between 500GB and 1TB in size, the average amount of data moved over the WAN for each backup job was less than 2GB. Nearly any WAN connection can handle an upload of 2GB in a very short period of time, making SolarWinds direct-to-cloud backups fast and efficient.
Unlike other products that add cloud storage as an afterthought, SolarWinds Backup is a cloud-first service, built from the ground up, for direct-to-cloud backup and recovery.
For even faster recovery, you can take a secondary backup to a local device using SolarWinds Local SpeedVault. There is no extra charge for this option, which uses a local disk to maintain a restore cache that is a mirror of the cloud storage.
