VDS, or virtual dedicated server, refers to a server that exists in a virtual environment, as opposed to being installed on dedicated hardware, which is dedicated to the exclusive use of a particular organization. A VDS is indistinguishable to the user from a server on its own physical hardware, but may in fact be sharing a single physical machine’s resources with other virtual servers.
