Root partition refers to the logical partition of a hard drive on which virtualization software is installed to enable other virtual machines to run on virtual partitions. The root partition is a dedicated portion of the hard drive, in contrast to the rest of the hard drive, which is allocated dynamically to virtual machines as they are created.
