Network Port Scanner refers to a utility that automatically scans the ports on a network to identify potential vulnerabilities. A Network Port Scanner can reveal a faulty firewall configuration so that an administrator can correct the errors before a security breach occurs. A Network Port Scanner may also be used simply to monitor the activity of a port as part of bandwidth management routines.
