Monitoring and diagnostics are tasks involved in effectively managing both the virtual and physical resources of any IT environment. Monitoring and diagnostics, though similar in intent, involve slightly different tasks. Monitoring involves detecting and tracking changes to a virtual environment, including its configuration, health, and overall performance. In a virtualized environment, administrators must monitor both virtual and physical resources, so the task can be complex at times. If a problem occurs, the diagnostics process must take into account the correlation between the virtual resources and the physical ones on which they rely.
