IPv6 Subnetting describes the process of creating network subnets using the IPv6 protocol. IPv6 Subnetting uses binary values of 1 to define a mask the same way IPv4 subnetting does. However, IPv6 Subnetting differs from IPv4 subnetting in that the IPv6 equivalent of an IPv4 /24 subnet, or the size of the space into which network segments should be broken, is a /64.
