What is Hot Standby

Hot standby refers to the component in a system whose primary function is to serve as the redundant part available for failover in case the primary event fails. Hot standby components must be kept powered and ready to avoid delays in transferring the operation from the failed primary component. Monitoring utilities that detect component failure can trigger the transfer from a failed component to the hot standby redundant component.
