What is Fibre Channel Protocol

Fibre Channel Protocol (FCP) is the standard transport protocol for delivering serial SCSI commands over Fibre Channel interconnects. Fibre Channel Protocol is designed to operate in a highly-efficient manner using hardware for protocol offload engines (POEs). Such highly-integrated POEs were necessary for the high-performance demands of clients who adopted Fibre Channel at first as a fast, reliable, scalable data transport system and later, to enable and build Storage Area Network (SAN) installations. Fibre Channel Protocol standardization is the responsibility of the INCITS TC-T10 committee.
