What is Discretionary Access Control

Discretionary Access Control is a type of access control that allows a principal, or subject, owning an object to grant or deny access to other principals, or subjects, in a given computer-based information system. Discretionary Access Control (DAC) is a data security strategy defined by the Trusted Computer System Evaluation Criteria. Discretionary Access Control, or DAC, is the opposite of mandatory access control, or MAC, in which all access is constrained by the operating system.
