Data transfer capacity is the maximum rate at which data can be transmitted. Data transfer capacity depends on bandwidth, or data transfer rate, which is a measure of how much data can be moved from one point to another, measured in bits/second or multiples thereof (e.g. megabits). The data transfer capacity of an I/O subsystem is an upper boundary on its data transfer rate for any I/O load.
