What is a Network Interface Card

Network Interface Card, or NIC, is an I/O adapter that allows a computer to connect to a network. A Network Interface Card may be integrated into a system’s motherboard or may take the form of a plug-in card. In either case, the Network Interface Card passes data between the system and the network, so monitoring NIC activity can reveal cases where data flow is suboptimal and may have negative effects for the user.
