Congratulations on your purchase of SolarWinds Storage Manager (STM). STM leverages an intuitive point-and-click interface that provides you a unified monitoring view of all the layers in your storage stack. By continuously scanning the network, STM provides storage performance data, automated storage capacity planning, maps of VMs to physical storage, and end-to-end visibility, making administration more efficient.
Why Install this Version
Storage Manager expands its feature set to include the following:
- Support for Dell Compellent storage arrays
- Support for target view of NetApp NFS volumes
- New alerts on Performance Metrics
- New IBM SVC Performance Reports
- New HP EVA RAID Group Performance Reports
- New IBM DS 6/8K Array Performance Reports
- Enhanced Charting features
Installing this Version
Warnings:
As with all modifications to your production environment, SolarWinds suggests that you complete the following tasks before implementing any changes:
Upgrades:
- Ensure you have a backup of your Storage Manager server and data. SolarWinds recommends either a copy of the database or a snapshot of the entire server.
- Activate the latest license key from your portal. If you have purchased or renewed maintenance recently, activate your new license key before attempting an upgrade.
- If you have changed the web port from 9000, or created an SSL key, you will need to do change them again.
- Windows only: Upgrading from 32-bit to a 64-bit installation? See this KB article for special instructions.
Fresh Installs:
- SolarWinds recommends that you do NOT install Storage Manager on the same server as SolarWinds Virtualization Manager or any SolarWinds Orion product (NPM, SAM, etc...)
Integration with Virtualization Manager:
- Links from Virtualization Manager v4.1 are incompatible with Storage Manager 5.2. You must install Virtualization Manager v4.1.3
Integration with Orion-based products:
- No changes to the Orion integration module. Upgrading is not necessary. If you choose to update it, you must uninstall, reinstall, and re-configure, after upgrading to STM 5.2.
- Installing the Orion NPM integration requires an installation of Orion Network Performance Monitor v10.1.2.
Other Important Changes:
- SQL injection attack security vulnerability fixed.
- Attachments in schedules will now be in zip files.
End of Life Announcement:
- Storage Manager/Storage Profiler 4.12.x
- Virtual & Server Profiler 4.12.x
- Backup Profiler 4.12.x
- Storage Manager 5.2 is the last release that includes a build for Storage Manager Server on the Windows 32-bit platform. We will continue to have a server build for Windows 64-bit, as well as an agent build for Windows 32-bit and 64-bit.
Agent dowlonads are in your portal or can be located here.
All installs and upgrades:
- The same hardware requirements apply to version 5.2 as previous versions. Additionally, you will need to be running version 4.12.x or higher before attempting to upgrade.
- Linux installations require the "libaio" library or the installation will fail. You can install the appropriate libaio package using the associated package manager for their distribution.
- When using Windows 2008 (or Vista for evaluations only), UAC must be disabled for the duration of the upgrade (until after configuration wizard completes).
- If you need a temporary license to install an instance of the software in a lab, please download an evaluation copy of the latest software from our website. Evaluation copies come with a fully functional 30-day license. Test the change in a lab environment that mimics your production environment.
Note: If you install STM onto an existing Profiler deployment, the installer will migrate your current Profiler server in place (all settings and history will be saved). Just execute the STM server installer on the Profiler server and it will find the current Profiler install and migrate the configuration and history.
